Talk:Sun sign

From AstrologyNotes

AstrologyNotes Astrological Knowledge Base

Will this be the article that we link to for a discussion, and for a historical background of 'Sun Signs', such as the ones that first appeared in newspapers in the mid 20th century? Or is this only for the interpretation of the tropical sign that a persons sun is in at birth? --Chris Brennan 10:02, 10 August 2005 (PDT)

It'd sure be fun to have a page to attack 'horoscopes' that are in newspapers >:D ;) --Frenchfisher 11:02, 10 August 2005 (PDT)

LOL, I don't know about "attacking", but yes I was hoping to put something here about what sun sign astrology is, its limitations and what it might be good for too. I don't have the skill to write anything about its history, do you want to do that Chris?

Yes, I will definately get around to it eventually, but at this point most of my stuff is packed up and I'm getting ready to move next Monday, so I'm going to be out of comission for a while. But when I get set up again, I will get right on it. --Chris Brennan 18:21, 10 August 2005 (PDT)

144 for all signs?

Wouldn't there only be 12 ways to express Sun in Leo using your method of computing it? After all, the ruling planet of our Sun is the Sun :D So that means our nature of egotistical warmth is expressed egoticstically and warmly! How redundant :) --Frenchfisher 16:09, 5 September 2005 (PDT)

Hi Frenchfisher! I was referring to 12 possible signs and 12 possible houses for the Sun to be located in, resulting in at least 144 different types of "Leos". But of course there is much more if you consider decans, dwads and whatnot. --StarAlchemist 16:34, 5 September 2005 (PDT)
Is it confusing to use houses? If so, please feel free to rewrite it :).
Hmm, I'm still a little confused. There are twelve possible Sun signs and 12 possible Sun houses, making 144 types of people in general (using this oversimplified method). For each sign, you seem to use 12 possible planet-that-rules-the-sign-the-sun-sign-is-in signs and 12 possible planet-that-rules-the-sign-the-sun-sign-is-in houses is equal to 144 types of that sun sign (your examples: Taurus with Venus in Aries in 2nd, Taurus with Venus in Scorpio in 7th). However, since the Sun rules Leo, "planet-that-rules-the-sign-the-sun-sign-is-in" becomes the Sun, so in this case, there would only be 1 possible Sun sign for each Leo (err, Leo) and 12 possible Sun houses, making 12 kinds of Leos. I took the initiative (gasp!) and changed it to reflect that. Hopefully we're on the same page now :) --Frenchfisher 18:33, 7 September 2005 (PDT)
Well, it may be "oversimplified" but I think it is much more realistic than not mentioning the various ways a sun sign is modified by its ruler. You are correct, the sun is an exception, thanks for changing it. --StarAlchemist 18:48, 7 September 2005 (PDT)
