Stephen loved his mother dearly, but had a very difficult relationship with his father, who was often quite aggressive with his sensitive son. Stephen’s mother protected him from his father’s wrath as much as she could, so when she prematurely died from cancer Stephen took it very badly. In his grief, he made his way to a spiritualist church, and that was the first step on his way to becoming a medium. Such as a vocation, however, did not come without difficulties because Stephen would have to experience true hardship and despair before he would be acknowledged as a leader in his field.
Stephen’s Sun is posited in the sign of Aquarius, which has typically been associated with the intellect. In ancient times, Aquarius was aligned with the element of water, which corresponds with spiritual endeavours. Stephen, therefore, is an old soul, and this has been verified by his spirit guide. Stephen commented that from a very early age he did not feel as if he was of this world, and he actually asked his mother if he had been adopted. Such a feeling of not belonging is a typical Aquarian sentiment. The Sun forms a sextile to the Mars/Moon conjunction, which reveals that he had a dynamic relationship with his mother, who was quite often the driving force in his life. This aspect is of special importance because it is the only combination of planets to aspect the Sun. Therefore, the Sun is very solarised indeed, but has the leadership qualities of Mars and the intuitiveness of the Moon.
Stephen’s Moon is posited in Aries in the seventh house, which again reveals that he had a very close relationship with his mother. The Moon forms a conjunction to Mars, which is very interesting indeed. Stephen’s mother died of Cancer, and this disease resounds of Martian themes prior to its allocation to the modern planet, Pluto.
The Mars/Moon conjunction forms a square to the North Node. This indicates that there was a fair amount of tension in Stephen’s family situation. Stephen did not have a good relationship with his father, who was particularly volatile at times. Perhaps on an esoteric level such a relationship was necessary because it forced Stephen out of the house and in the world at large. If Stephen had a harmonious relationship with his father, he may never have had the impetus to go out and seek his own destiny.
Stephen’s Ascendant is in the sign of Virgo, which is the sign of service, so in many ways Stephen is serving humanity by working as a medium and bringing comfort to many bereaved individuals. Virgo is often considered to be a barren sign, in that many with Virgo prominent in their chart are childless. In his autobiography Stephen mentioned that he had been so busy working as a medium that he did not have time for a relationship. If Stephen did have children, it will in all probability be later in life. Stephen’s Ascendant forms a square to Venus, which reveals that he would have certain difficulties when attempting to form relationships with the opposite sex. The Ascendant forms a sextile to the Jupiter/South Node conjunction, which reveals that he would have difficulties with money throughout his life. He was born into a relatively poor family and lived in a modest home, and his mother worked very hard to give him that which he needed to complete his education. After that, he worked in relatively low paid jobs, such as a sales assistant. He was also unemployed for a while, making him nearly destitute.
Stephen’s Midheaven is in the sign of Gemini, which reveals that he needs a career where he can be versatile and communicative.
Stephen’s Mercury is posited in the sign of Aquarius in the fifth house. He therefore tends to communicate on a very general level and has a particular affinity to children. This is evidenced by the fact that he had in the past worked in a playgroup for children. Because spirits are etheric in nature, the watery, airy, nature of Aquarius is a suitable sign for a medium. Mercury forming a square to the Uranus/Jupiter conjunction, and this reflects that throughout Stephen’s life he would encounter many unscheduled events. When he initially asked for payment for working as a medium, he received a very frosty reception. Mercury forms an opposition with Pluto, which reveals that communication with the dead was part of Stephen’s destiny or life path. Mercury forms a trine to Neptune, so he is a very spiritual person and tends to express his spirituality through mediumship; and one important thing that Stephen learned through his tribulations is that true spirituality is rare. Mercury forms a square to the Saturn/Fortuna conjunction, which is reflected by the fact that he studied drama and the performing arts in college, thereby equipping him with valuable skills he would need to work as a medium.
Stephen’s Venus is posited in Sagittarius in the fourth house, and this shows he has a deep love of his home, family and mother. He is also a highly intelligent being and would enjoy reading and studying subjects of a more intellectual nature. Stephen would ultimately go on to make money through teaching others, travelling, and working with his church. Venus forms a quincunx to Jupiter in the tenth house, which discloses how Stephen would like to make money and how he actually earns money can at times be a cause for concern. Venus forms a trine to Pluto, which shows his affinity with the spirit world, and he would quite often relate better with incarnate entities than with those in the physical world. If he does go on to develop a relationship, it is likely to be a highly intense in quality, as he will try to transcend the mundanity of this physical world through his contact with other people.
Mars forms a conjunction to the Moon in Aries in the seventh house. Because Mars is in its home sign, it works with a great deal of ease, and therefore reveals why Stephen has many leadership qualities.
Jupiter is posited in cancer in the tenth house, which reveals that Stephen inherited a great deal of wisdom from his mother and other women in his life, and he could use his knowledge to help him in his career. Jupiter in the tenth house is a fine placement because it indicates that he can make much money in his career. Jupiter forms a trine to Saturn, which indicates that the sense of responsibility and dedication to duty instilled by his father would hold him in good stead and help him to achieve his career goals. It is his sense of determination that has kept him from giving up, even against seemingly insurmountable obstacles. Jupiter forms a trine to Neptune, which exposes Stephen’s deeply ingrained psychic abilities. Because he was a medium from birth, he needed very little training to be able to give readings for others.
Saturn is posited in the sign of Scorpio in the third house, which indicates that he would have a great deal of structure throughout his education. This is evidenced by the fact that his good grades enabled him to attend an elite school, so that he could make friends from different backgrounds than would otherwise have been possible. Saturn forms a square to Pluto, which points to his work with dead people, and this association was not always smooth sailing. In addition to his spirit guide and other well-intentioned entities, Stephen also encountered some rather malefic forces, and he had to learn to deal with these manifestations in a mature fashion.
Uranus is posited in Cancer, which reveals that Stephen would often be required to make some very important decisions with regard to his destiny in this life. His mother and other family members played an important part in the development of his destiny because they supported him in his education by purchasing uniforms, paying tuition fees, and paying his train fare.
Uranus forms a semi-sextile to Pluto, which shows he was forced to learn some very tough lessons about the world. Specifically, one year when he hit rock bottom; he had no job, no money, and no warm clothes. The lesson he learned from that experience was that he needed to know what it was like to be destitute before he could help others. Uranus forms a square to Neptune, and this indicates that following the spiritual path was not his first choice, but something he needed to be nudged into. Uranus forms a trine to the Part of Fortune, which shows that travel, communication, and mediumship would come easily to Stephen, which was one of the reasons why he would choose to work in that vocation. The travel, however, often brought a sense of loss, as he often had to pay his own expenses when he gave sittings at the various spiritualist churches he visited.
Neptune in Libra in the second house reveals that Stephen would quite often become depressed about his financial situation, because for a long period of time he subsisted on a very low income. Stephen also markets himself as a poet, which suggests he could earn money in that vocation as well. Neptune forming a sextile to Pluto is further supporting evidence of Stephen’s decision to work as a medium. In many ways such a vocation was destined for from him because there are very few people who are genuinely clairvoyant. Pluto in Leo in the eleventh house shows that Stephen’s friendships would have their ups and downs. He would sadly find that when he needed a friend the most, none were to be found. It is for that reason that he turned inward and listened to his spirit guides when he was in need of a friend.
The Part of Fortune is posited in the sign of Scorpio in the third house, which indicates that Stephen had a very strong compulsion to transcend the banalities of life and death.
