Common Interpretation
Saturn is the planet of ambition, structure and hard work. It is associated with "karma" because wherever it enters our lives it indicates a drive to perfect ourselves. If in detriment, fall or peregrine, the qualities of Saturn will be comparatively weak and negative in the individual, although they may develop more strength later in life. If Saturn falls in an earth sign, it will be most true to its own nature and therefore most effective (with Capricorn bringing out its best qualities). If in a water sign, adjust the interpretation of Saturn to act with moodiness and self-protection. If Saturn is in an air sign, add intellectual superiority and detachment (but in Libra this is balanced by concern for others). If in fire, add restlessness and irritability.
Saturn in the eleventh house indicates fear of group involvement and of choosing life goals. These people may prefer to be alone rather than mingle, as they often encounter painful situations in groups. They take their friendships very seriously, but in informal situations with those they do not really trust they feel alienated and sometimes betrayed. They will have to put real effort into establishing some good friendships they feel worthy of maintaining, and they should work at becoming involved in groups which reflect their interests. They need to stop expecting regular people (as opposed to intimate friends) to fulfill their ideals of perfection. Likewise, they need to stop burdening themselves by treating their casual group relations with the same intensity of commitment and emotional involvement they would give to close friends. Essentially, they need to value casual group activity for what it is and not expect it to be any more than that. In order to do this, they will need to structure their life so that they are involved only in groups which reflect their goals and ideals to some degree. Maintaining friendships they consistently find boring or unproductive will only compound the problem. They will also need to develop at least one or two close friends they can really admire and trust.
They should find it helpful to apply the same discerning attitude to their approach to setting goals. Rather than agonizing or waffling incessantly over what to do, they could try to divide their goals into one or two that are really meaningful and reflect their true will for their life and those that are merely supportive or desirable. The minor goals need not be agonized over, simply choose the most practical and productive route that enables one to safely and happily move closer to the major goal. In this way, they will not hamstring themselves with indecision. As long as they keep working toward their goals they will be fine. It is when they get stuck that confusion, fear and depression set in.
