Quintile

The quintile is a fifth harmonic aspect in which the angle formed by division is 72°. When two points are in quintile it means that from a geocentric position on earth, the two bodies appear to be exactly 1/5 of the way around the zodiac from each other. The number five is a prime number with the numerological significance of change, freedom and knowledge. It has the qualities of air and fire and the nature of Uranus in Leo. Similarly, the quintile brings creative change and some kind of ability or self-knowledge in the areas of life indicated. Although the results are generally good, if the planets are of very diverse natures it could seem unpleasant. For example, Saturn quintile Neptune initially shows insecurity because Saturn wants to build while Neptune wants to dissolve. But, along with the fear comes special talent in overcoming fear and depression through Neptunian pursuits (spirituality, fantasy, music, etc.). With more compatible planets the energy can be quite lucky and invigorating. There is also a fiery and slightly rebellious nature to this aspect, which could show itself in being extreme.

Planets in quintile never share the same element, but they may or may not have the same gender or quality. If both planets are in cardinal signs, action will probably be unique and highly creative. If both are in fixed signs, the action may be volatile. If both are in mutable signs, the action may involve frequent changes, or ease of interaction with others. The speed and likelihood of action will also be affected by the quality of the houses, whether angular, cadent or succedent. If the planets are both in signs of the same gender the action will be passively expressed for feminine signs (earth and water) and assertively expressed for masculine signs (air and fire). If the planets are not in signs of the same quality or gender, there is more uncertainty how it will express itself.
