As the third house is a house of Mercury, if placed here the symbols of the Moon combine partially with those of Mercury and the sign it rules, Gemini. Hence the native’s emotions will be awakened by all that can stimulate his intelligence in a fast, immediate way, by all that will attract its curiosity, all that is new and fresh. Immediate events, what takes place here and now will have a strong imprint on his emotions. This placement tends to attenuate the tendency to cherish the past, which is something typical of the Moon. If the native will engage in one of the professions ruled by the third house, this may be a considerable strength, as he will have the capacity to intuitively understand certain shadings of other people’s behaviour and use them to his advantage. On the other hand if in the natal chart the Moon is particularly afflicted this capacity may be diminished, and the native’s excessive sensitivity – or his projections – may be a disadvantage in his mundane life.
If male, the native will be attracted by sociable, cheerful women. Another possibility is that the native will choose his partner on the basis of practical, utilitarian considerations. For instance he may choose a woman as his partner because she is popular and may introduce him into classy social circles. If the Moon is afflicted, this choice will reveal itself to be wrong in the end, or cause the native’s disappointment.
If female, the native’s sense of self esteem will rest upon her popularity, her ability to be successful in her social life, to forge a multitude of social ties, to be admired and desired and so on. Often the native will prefer several short lived relationships to any commitment. If afflicted, it may indicate that the native’s aspirations to a busy and successful social life will be frustrated. Else, the native may make several clumsy attempts at gaining popularity.
The native’s mother may be slightly cold, exceptionally sociable, perhaps frivolous or simply youthful. If afflicted, in a female chart this may indicate that the relationships to one’s mother may be marked by a deep rivalry. In a male’s chart this affliction of the Moon could indicate that the native will try to find a partner resembling his mother. Another possible interpretation is that the mother could sort a negative impact on the native’s social life.
The native may have spent his childhood in a dynamic, merry environment. If the Moon is afflicted, in his youngest age the native may have suffered because of a lack of attention caused by his parent’s too busy social life, or by continuous travels.
In some cases the native may have difficulties sleeping because of an excessive cerebral activity, or could need fewer sleep hours than the majority of people.
