The Medium Coeli or Midheaven is a point on the horoscope chart, which in most house systems corresponds with the cusp of the tenth house. Modern astrology defines the Midheaven as the point where the ecliptic crosses the Meridian. In Ptolemy's time it was defined as the astronomical zenith, or upper perpendicular to the horizon. A concrete explanation of this is that planets put directly on the MC were directly overhead at birth; for instance, someone with the Sun on the MC was born at high noon, which may or may not have been at 12:00 PM on the day they were born.
