Mercury opposition Ascendant (and thus conjunct the Descendant) indicates externalization of the mental, curious qualities of Mercury. These people are often perceived as somewhat slow at first sight. Alone, they are often somewhat uncurious and unmotivated to learn, paying more attention to other parts of their life. This attitude attracts bright, curious types, hoping perhaps to educate or tutor the native.
However, when in contact with others, the native reveals their unique gift: they are excellent conversationalists. Though perhaps not good at intiating a conversation, when actually in it they can express almost any thought in infinite detail, provided the other party in the conversation is equally talkative. They are much better at responding to a comment than making a unique one of their own, but any comment made by this type should often be listened to closely, as one can be sure that they have heard the thoughts of others as well. In relationships, these people tend to attract intelligent, talkative people; perhaps Geminis or Virgos. The relationship is more one of two minds together than two hearts, more pleasant intellectual discourse than intimate passion (unless indicated otherwise by other placements), but it is never dull, as Mercury opposition Ascendant people always find something new to talk about.
