La Toya Jackson is a member of the very famous Jackson family. In an attempt to come to terms with her various childhood experiences, she wrote her autobiography to set the record straight about many myths. La Toya has stated in her book that she, along with her other siblings, was a battered child. She stayed at home with her parents until she was in her late 20’s, falling prey to her parents’ emotional blackmail whenever she tried to leave, and she allowed her parents to control almost every aspect of her life. When she did leave home, to her anguish, her parents practically disowned her. Along with the fact that La Toya was a survivor of child abuse, she also embraced the Jehovah’s Witness faith. Sadly, even her religion would let her down in the end. She was dis-fellowshipped by the church for failing to attend.

Perhaps, the first thing to note about La Toya’s natal chart is the fact that she has a fixed grand trine square, which means that she would encounter a great deal of friction and tension in her life, which would hopefully make her a bigger person.

In “Dynamics of Aspect Analysis”, Bil Tierney gives a very insightful analysis of the grand square. It is often considered a difficult configuration to be born with and can be especially restrictive and self-limiting. La Toya has to struggle under somewhat frustrating conditions that would force her to properly direct vital energies or else run the risk of becoming scattered and drained. As she begins to concentrate upon how she can better utilise this powerful energy field, she may discover a reservoir of inner strength.

The fixed grand square could be considered as a most trying and testing cross to bear, as it represents attitudes in one’s consciousness that have been repeated for the individual over several incarnations. It may manifest through deep-seated, hard to eradicate problems in this life that demand her full concentration. The fixed grand square tends to work its powerful energies out on the will and desire level, creating inner frustrations often leading to emotional crises. The four squares intensify the wilfulness and unyielding fixity of this quality. Here the tendency is to compress feelings and fortify the will to such an extent that pressures internalise upon the deeper levels of the psyche, resulting in enduring blockages or inhibitions. She can become very crystallised in her feelings and emotional flexibility is needed to keep her from finding herself in a rut. The two oppositions reflect conflicts centred around her possessiveness and firm resistance towards compromising or sharing with others. La Toya will have to learn the hard way how to become less bull headed and absolute in her demands if relationship interests are to work out in a mutually satisfying way, and this is especially so in relation to marriage.

As this is the grand square of extremism, the energy it generates can draw out the most purposeful, dedicated expression as well as the most debased and cruel. La Toya is constantly pressured to cleanse her potent feeling nature in this incarnation and clear out all lingering resentments, hostilities, jealousies, and festering hatred. The emotional inner disharmonies she battles with can easily turn her congested energies back into the physical body, manifesting in psychosomatic health problems involving a deep build up of toxins not readily removed. Problematic symptoms then can become more settled in the mind and body.

La Toya’s Sun is in the sign of Gemini, which means that she is a very adaptable person. Her ability to suss out any given situation and adjust her behaviour accordingly is one thing that has helped her to survive in a rather dysfunctional family. The South Node forms a conjunction to the Sun, which indicates that she would quite often forego her own wants, needs, and desires in favour of others.

Mercury forms a conjunction to the Sun, which shows that La Toya has a very versatile mind. She did well in school and was quite friendly to people, but sadly she did not have any friends, which was due to the fact that the South Node forms a part of the stellium. The Sun forms a trine to the Moon, which indicates that La Toya saw her mother as her friend for a long time. It was not until she moved out of the house and felt betrayed by her mother that the relationship changed.

Venus forms a semi-sextile to the Sun, which shows that La Toya was born with natural good looks and was attractive to others. It was her natural beauty that helped her to succeed in show business. Venus in the sign of Cancer indicates that La Toya was very much like her own mother in looks, which was another thing that made her close to her.

La Toya’s Moon is posited in Aquarius in the eleventh house, which means that she regarded her mother as her friend. She even stated those sentiments in her autobiography, declaring that when she lived at home she regarded her mother as her best friend. Friends can be fickle, and when La Toya exerted her independence by leaving home, her mother saw it as a breach of trust. It is interesting to note that many people who had been separated from their mothers, such as Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana, had the Moon posited in the sign of Aquarius. Although La Toya was not estranged from her mother until well into her third decade of life, the relationship was unusual nonetheless.

La Toya’s Moon forms a quincunx to he Venus, which indicates that her familial responsibilities affected her personal relationships. Her mother never encouraged her to develop relationships outside of the home because she did not want La Toya to leave. La Toya, in turn, saw dating as a prelude to getting married, and she did not want to enter into that type of relationship with a man.

La Toya’s Mercury is in its home sign of Gemini, which indicates that she is a very inquisitive person and her siblings mean a great deal to her. The South Node forming a conjunction to Mercury, which shows that the very siblings she loved were a source of trouble. La Toya was very close to her brothers, and the bond they had caused a great deal of animosity with their wives, who were extremely jealous and insecure.

La Toya’s Venus is placed in Cancer, which indicates that she has a natural affinity to all of the comforts of home. La Toya even met her husband through her family. Jack Gordon had initially been a business associate of La Toya’s father, but he eventually became her manager and then her husband. The fact that the marriage was platonic is also in line with the Cancer placement. Artemis, the goddess associated with Cancer, was a virgin because she did not want to lose her figure by giving birth to children.

Venus forms a quincunx/semi-sextile to the nodal axis. This indicates that the close relationships that she forms will have an impact on her own personal destiny. La Toya would accomplish much more if she set her sights further failed because her siblings may “unconsciously thwart her endeavours”. This tendency was clearly evidence when she moved out of the house and was dismayed to discover that her own siblings had worked to sabotage a gig she was scheduled to perform at.

La Toya’s Mars is posited in Aquarius, which forms part of the grand square. The Aquarius placement indicates that she would put a great deal of energy into her friendships. Mars forming a quincunx to Uranus and an opposition to Pluto reflects that La Toya would have to make some choices with regard to her friendships. This is indicated by the fact that she was told she would not be allowed to speak to a friend who had been dis-fellowshipped from the Jehovah’s Witness religion. La Toya did as she was told and did not speak to her friend anymore, but the incident disturbed her so much that she decided not to attend church any longer. On another occasion he own brother was told by the Jehovah’s Witness church that he was not allowed to speak to her anymore because she had been dis-fellowshipped from the church for the unbelievable act of failing to attend church.

Mars is trine Neptune, which indicates that La Toya would be very idealistic about her personal relationships. Quite often she had no idea that some men were attracted to her, and as a result, she was also put in quite a few compromising positions when she was seeking work as an entertainer. She also married her manger in an attempt to distance herself from her parents. Mars forms a square to Saturn, and this reflects that tenacious relationship that she has with her father and authority figures in general. She stated quite clearly that her father had beaten her, and left it to the imagination of the reader to decide if any other abuses of trust had ever taken place. She also stated that her father was the only man who she had ever known, and by consequence, just assumed that all men were just as violent and abusive as he was.

La Toya’s Jupiter is in the sign of Leo, which indicates that she has a great deal of love to give. Jupiter forms an opposition to Mars and a square to Saturn, and a sextile to Neptune. This configuration indicates that the relationship she had with her father and authority figures in general. This is evidenced by the fact that La Toya did not want to bring any friends home because she was afraid that he would have a tirade, her personal relationships therefore being severely affected by his behaviour.

La Toya’s Saturn is posited in the sign of Scorpio, which indicates that she has a rather intense relationship with her father and authority figures. In her autobiography, she states quite clearly that her father was a very physically abusive and threatening presence in her life. Saturn forming a trine to Uranus and a square to Pluto further testifies to this.

Uranus is in the 29th degree of Cancer reveals that La Toya had a rather austere family life. She was deprived of a childhood for all intents and purposes because her father was a harsh abuser and her mother was an ineffective enabler. La Toya was therefore forced to choose between her family and following her own personal destiny.

Neptune is posited in Libra, which reveals that La Toya is very idealistic about her personal relationships. Because Neptune forms a sextile to Pluto and a square to Uranus the nature of her personal relationships can be rather extreme. This is evidenced by the fact that she married her manager in an attempt to keep her family out of her affairs. So damaged was she by her childhood experiences, her marriage to her manager had still not been consummated after five years, thereby causing problems in the union.

Pluto is posited in the sign of Leo, which indicates that in matters of love, La Toya would be required to suffer a loss, which would be of such a transcendental nature that she would have a greater understanding of the emotion.
