The word hyleg means the giver of life.
In astrology this term has become a controversial subject. It is also a very complex concept and comes to us from ancient astrologers. One of the reasons why modern astrologers don't use it now is because it was used as a tool to predict death and the prediction of death, in modern astrology, is now viewed to be unethical.
The Sun or Moon are hyleg if either is in the Ascendant between 5 degrees above to 25 degrees below; or if either is in the Descendant between 5 degrees above to 25 degrees below; or between 5 degrees below the 9th house cusp to 25 degrees below the 11th house cusp, which encompasses the entire 10th house; or if neither the Sun or the Moon is located in one of these hylegical places, the Ascendant degree becomes the hyleg.
