AstrologyNotes Tutorial

Learning to wiki can be a challenge...but don't tear your hair out! It is really easy when you get the hang of it. This tutorial will walk you step by step through a new adventure - collaborative astrology using the wiki interface.

In this tutorial you will learn:

How to post your astrological information on your own page
How to chat with other astrology buffs
How to create and edit article pages so that you can contribute your own knowledge to this growing community.
How to keep tabs on revisions of articles

What is this wiki stuff anyway?

The term wiki refers to the type of server software (this website) that allows everyone to edit article pages. Wiki markup refers to the special markup language used in wikis - which is not the same as HTML, the markup language used in regular web pages. To wiki, or wikifying, refers to the process of writing wiki markup.

Note: this tutorial is hands-on, you will be actively participating in the community by posting information. If this is not want you want to do, you can jump over to the help pages, learn how to find stuff, or read some answers to frequently asked questions. But if you are brave enough to wiki, make sure you are logged into the website so that you can edit articles.

Please also ensure you are using the MonoBook skin for now. Skins are different colors and layouts that you can put on your AstrologyNotes. The default skin is MonoBook, so if you haven't changed it since you registered you are fine for this tutorial. If you prefer to use ColorBook or StarBook go ahead - they are built on the same template. To change the wiki skin you are using first open up the preferences link (at the top and right of the browser window in MonoBook), click Skin, then choose one of the above skins and click "Save".

By the way, don't forget that as an AstrologyNotes member, you decide what you want to see. There are places in the forums to request changes to the website like skins and stuff, and you can edit almost all the pages yourself! In cooperation with the other members, you are editor, critic, supporter and end user - all in one. This is your site, so take charge and make it just want you want it to be!
