Below are some ways to explore AstrologyNotes:
Browse the site
- You can browse through an outline of major site sections through AstrologyNotes:Browse. Note that this is not always up to date.
- You can also go to any of the main category pages indicated by the icons on the front page, such as Reference. This page should list all the subcategories and the major sections.
Use the search tool
On the left-hand side of your screen there is a Search box with two buttons under it labeled "Go" and "Search".
Put your keyword in the searchbox.
- Go - (or Enter on keyboard) will take you automatically to the article, if it exists.
- Search - will search the text of all pages on the wiki (with some restrictions, see below).
If you clicked 'search', or you clicked 'go' and the page you were looking for did not exist, you will be presented with a list of articles that matched your search criteria (or a message that no matches were found). Sometimes an article exists under a different namespace, or is worded in such a way that it does not show up in the list of articles matching your search criteria. If you can't find what you want but you are pretty sure it is on AstrologyNotes, try looking under the appropriate category as indicated above.
How the search works
- Only the article content is searched - the page title is ignored.
- The article content is searched in its raw (wikitext) form - i.e. it searches the text that appears in the edit box when you click 'edit', not the rendered page. This means that content coming from an included template will not be picked up, but the target of piped links will be.
- Even if you enclose a phrase in quotes, the search looks for each word individually. e.g. if you enter "world war 2" it will return pages that contain "world" and "war" and "2".
- The search is not case-sensitive, so "MediaWiki", "mediawiki" and "MEDIAWIKI" all give the same result.
Restricting the search
By default only the namespaces specified in your preferences will be searched. Logged-in users can change their preferences to specify the namespaces they want to search by default, or if you just want to specify different namespaces for a single search then you can do so on the search results page.
- Click "Go" or "Enter" to go directly to the page if such exists
- Click "Search" to find any articles including the keyword
- The search tool searches the article (or Main) namespace. If the page is in another namespace you can first do a search as usual, then check the box for the namespace at the bottom of the search results page and try again.
- don't search for only words in quotes. Try the search without quotes first. If that's not good enough, put as many words as possible outside the quotes or add some more to narrow the search.
Other ways to browse
- View what edits have been made to AstrologyNotes articles recently. Click on Recent Changes in the sidebar.
- View new articles & updates through an RSS feed viewer. Click on Recent Changes in the sidebar and then "RSS" or "Atom" under the toolbox to get the feed link.
- Click on Random Page in the sidebar to get a random article page.
- Browse the various categories. You can do this by clicking on the linked category name at the bottom of a page, or you can type Category:<Name> in the search box. For example, to see a list of all categories in AstrologyNotes, type Category:AstrologyNotes in the search box and press Go.
- Use your watchlist to track changes made to a particular page (only when logged in). Click My watchlist on the top of the page.
- Find the pages that have a link to a given page: click What links here on the latter page. This works also for a page that does not exist (there may be links to it, which makes it extra useful to create it). The What links here button is also on the edit page on which one arrives when following a broken link.
- Use the special pages. Click on Special pages in the sidebar.
- A useful link is "all pages"
- In all pages you can choose what namespace to view (example: Image)
