Eileen gives her birthday as 25th November, 1960. She did not give a birth time in her book, so a rectification was necessary. Because she and her husband had decided to relocate to Switzerland, her fourth house of home and family needs to be placed in her ninth house of travel. Because she had been sexually abused when she was a child, an emphasis on the eighth house would be necessary. A time of 12:15 pm places Mercury, which rules the fourth house, in the ninth. It also places Neptune in Scorpio on the eighth/ninth house cusp, thus highlighting the illusively deceptive sexual themes that permeated Eileen’s being.

Aquarius represents bizarre types of sex, which are dubious at best and highly unethical, if not illegal, at worst. The Aquarian placement is on Eileen’s Ascendant and is highly appropriate, considering her life experiences. It is important to keep in mind that many people from dysfunctional backgrounds have Aquarius prominently placed in their charts, as this is the sign of the unusual.
Eileen’s Moon conjunct the South Node in Pisces symbolised the relationship that she had with her mother. During the murder trial one of her sisters stated her mothering ability as ‘non-existent’, which was a nice way of saying that she neglected her children.
The Pisces placement of Eileen’s Moon indicates that her mother had a very depressive nature. She had had one nervous breakdown for which she spent a considerable amount of time in hospital, and when she was able to return home she was totally incapable of nurturing or caring for her children. When the Franklin marriage became untenable and the couple divorced, Eileen’s mother took all of the divorce settlement and spent it on her college education that included completion of law school, and other luxuries for herself. There was, however, no money set-aside for her children’s education.
The Moon also indicates how we react to others. Because the Moon forma a square to the Sun, it is difficult for Eileen to trust others. In addition, because of her various life experiences, it was very difficult for her to develop trusting relationships. As a result of this, she developed a highly complex fantasy world, which included curling up in a ball and hiding in the house, trying to become invisible. The fact that Eileen wanted to simply disappear speaks volumes about the effects of the neglect and abuse that she witnessed and was subjected to.
Extensive studies have suggested that children who have been abused have a tendency to grow up into adults who abuse. Remarkably, Eileen did not grow up to become an abuser. Because she received little, if any, pocket money, when she became a teenager she took up babysitting in order to earn a little spending money. It was during this stint as a babysitter that she discovered that she actually liked children and enjoyed taking care of them. As Eileen matured, she decided that she would like to have children of her own. Interestingly, Cancer lies on Eileen’s sixth house cusp, which indicates that the work she would pursue would be in the caring profession.
Eileen’s Sun in Sagittarius represents her animus, or the masculine side of herself. It also gives an indication of her father, George Franklin, who was a fire fighter by trade. Unfortunately, the volatility of this element was misused, as he was a very violent and aggressive man.
The Sun and Moon in the person’s horoscope are highly significant, as they represent the mother and father in the chart. What is important is the fact that her Sun and Moon form a square to each other, which indicates that at least a fair amount of tension was present in the union. In fact, George and Leah Franklin had a very volatile marriage. The couple drank heavily, quite possibly in at attempt to self-medicate and therefore put themselves in a state of eternal forgetfulness so they would not have to think about the problems that they had as a couple. It is important to keep in mind that while George was a very viscous and aggressive man while he was married to Leah, after he left the home Eileen could not recall one incident when he was violent towards her or any of her other siblings. Years later, when Eileen asked her father about his marital difficulties, he said it was because Leah was always so critical of him. Eileen’s Sun, Moon and Pluto make up a T-square arrangement, with the Sun at the apex and the Moon and Pluto forming the opposition, which indicates that her parent’s unhealthy relationship had a knock-on effect on her adult relationships.
The Sun/Moon midpoint is known as the karmic point, as it encompasses both the anima and the animus of our conscious awareness. It reflects how Eileen’s mother and father came together and formed a union. What is interesting to note is the fact that the Sun/Moon midpoint opposes Mars in Cancer in the fifth house, which shows that both parents would tend to take their frustrations out on the children. Eileen’s mother, at least, deeply regretted having children because they ruined her figure and kept her from going to college and pursuing her career goals.
Pluto placed in the 8th degree of Virgo, which is coincidentally is the age the Susan Nason, the murder victim, died, indicates that the nature of Eileen’s work, and health, would go in peaks and troughs. She therefore drifted from job to job and apartment to apartment, until she met an acquaintance who offered her a job as a call girl. Because all she had to do was disassociate herself from the physical acts involved in the job, she considered it to be easy money and worked for him for a short time – until the vice squad arrested her and put an end to her short career in the sex industry. It is important at this point to keep in mind that virtually all prostitutes have been sexually abused as children, thus further affirming her childhood experiences.
Pluto forms a sextile to Neptune, which is what has enabled Eileen to survive an ordeal that no child should have to go through. Another child may very well have cracked under the strain of keeping so many sinister secrets, but an inherent quality within Eileen enable her to fall into an indefinite period of forgetfulness, thus transcending the unpleasantness of the house she was brought up in.
Eileen’s memory was bound to return, however, and Neptune forming a trine to her Moon shows that when she became a mother herself, she would gradually begin to recall the events that shaped her childhood and formed the adult that she had grown up to be. It was not until her own daughter turned eight years old that she was able to get flashbacks and recall the circumstances and subsequent events surrounding the murder.
Neptune, forming a sextile to Pluto is reflective of this disillusion that Eileen felt in her marriage. She intentionally married a man who was significantly older than she was, and a businessman as well, which verified her Venus conjunct Saturn in the sign of Capricorn. On the occasions that she tried to leave him, he exerted every bit of power and influence that he had to get her back, which included threatening to have her criminally charged for taking money out of their joint bank account. Her husband’s desire to keep her at all costs, regardless of the consequences, is portrayed by the Venus/Saturn conjunction forming an opposition to Mars.
Eileen’s nodes lie on her seventh and first house axis. The North Node in Virgo indicates that she will accomplish the things that she wants by working in partnership with another individual. This is obvious because it was only through her husband’s encouragement and support that she was able to go to the authorities with what she had remembered about the murder that had taken place twenty years earlier. In addition, ‘Sins of the Father’ was co-written with another writer, which allowed her to tell her story through a medium who had the skill and experience to write it in a sensitive, saleable manner.
Mercury, the planet that rules one’s mental faculties, is placed in Scorpio in the ninth house. Mercury conjunct Neptune relates to Eileen’s eternal forgetfulness, especially in matters relating to all of the abuse that she witnessed and was subjected to. Mercury forming a sextile to Pluto indicates that when the memories that had been repressed so long ago finally came to the surface of her conscious awareness, her perception of them were as if they were occurring for the first time. The extent of her recall was of such an extent that she had actual physical memories and felt pain in the parts of her body that had been violated so long ago.
Mercury governs the relationship that Eileen has with her siblings and the Scorpio element sitting on the eighth/ninth house cusp conjuncting Neptune indicates that she had a very intense relationship with them. Although there was a lot of caring and feeling, because of the dysfunctional nature of their coming together as a unit, the group was not strong enough as a whole to withstand the revelation of their dirty little secrets. Eileen’s revelation of the murder and the ensuing court case pretty much destroyed the relationship that she had with her siblings. Eileen’s oldest sister did not want her to go to the authorities because she was married to a successful lawyer and was worried about what the outbreak of such new would do to her standing in her local community. So self-absorbed was she, that she ironically even told Eileen that the Nason family had probably already forgotten about the murder.
