Bill Clinton, the United States 42nd president, is a very interesting individual. Although countless astrologers have looked at and analysed his chart to find out who the person in the chart is, it is important to look at it from a psychological perspective. When looking at the chart, may clues to some very serious issues, as related in ‘Hillary’s Choice’, written by Gail Sheehy, can be addressed.

When studying Bill’s chart, the first thing that strikes the reader is the fact that all of the planets lie between the eighth and first houses, indicating that he is a very public person whose focus in this life is his public image. After noting the placements, the next important factor to take into account is the two stelliums, thereby further focusing the emphasis in the chart.

There are five points posited in Libra in the first house, which indicates that while Bill has a Leo Sun, governing his character, and there are some very strong Libran influences.

Because Bill’s Ascendant is in the sign of Libra, he as some very attractive qualities that make him endearing to others. Women who have met him consider him to be quite charismatic, possessing a magnetic aura, which makes him somewhat difficult to resist.

The Ascendant, Mars, Neptune and Venus all form a conjunction and are no more than five degrees away from each other. This illustrates the sex appeal that permeates his entire being. Mars governs sexual energy in general, Venus rules the need to build a relationship in order to have a satisfying sexual relationship, and Neptune acts as a drug, thus preparing the formula for Bill to turn to sex when he is in distress.

Although rumours have run rampant about Bill’s frequent use of prostitutes, the Libran placement in his chart indicates that he preferred to have sex within the confines of an intimate relationship. The main problem to present itself is the fact that Bill has found it extremely difficult to have a relationship with just one person.

The second stellium is composed of the Sun, Pluto, Mercury and Saturn in the sign of Leo, which indicates that Bill is a quadruple Leo and possesses the qualities of love, fun, happiness and hedonism. The bulk of the stellium is posited in the tenth house, and forms a sextile to the Libran stellium in the first house. This indicates that there would, be many opportunities that would give Bill the chance to bask in the limelight.

Bill’s Sun and Moon are very important planets because they describe his anima and animus, or the outgoing and receptive parts of his being. Because Bill’s Sun is in the sign of Leo, he has a great deal of love to give. His Sun placed in the eleventh house indicates that he is friendly and sociable, but does not generally get too close to people. There are very few people who know who the real Bill Clinton is, as he has learned through his life experiences not to reveal too much of himself to others.

Because Bill is possessed with a natural charisma, which is a mixture of his Sun and Ascendant working harmoniously together, he is a naturally popular person who can be very endearing to others. Because of his popularity, he was elected president of his class during both his freshman and sophomore years at Georgetown University, and during his senior year he won a Rhodes Scholarship to the University of Oxford in England.

Bill’s Moon indicates how he reacts to certain situations. Because it is posited in the sign of Taurus, he can be quite stubborn and is not easily manipulated. If anything, the Moon posited in the eighth house shows that it is he who tends to manipulate others. The eighth house placement shows that Bill will allow his emotions and feelings to simmer just beneath the surface, like a volcano, ready to explode. The eruptive reactions are well documented, as he has a tendency to yell at others to let off steam.

Bill’s Sun and Moon make a tense aspect to each other, as they form a square. This reveals that Bill has a hard time trusting others, which is not surprising considering his early experiences. Bill was born without a father, who was believed to have died before his birth. This sense of loss was not helped by the fact that Bill’s stepfather was a violent, abusive gambler and drinker who would not allow Bill to take his name during his childhood. It was not until Bill was a teenager and his mother was estranged from him that Bill decided to legally take his stepfather’s name.

The Moon also shows how Bill relates to women in general, and the eighth house placement indicates that he tends to relate to women with sexual overtones. The Moon forming a quincunx to Jupiter indicates that Bill would have many opportunities to build relationships with woman, and it is no secret that many of the individuals who have assisted him in his career happened to be women.

Unfortunately, the Moon also governs food and meals, and its quincunx to Jupiter indicates that when under stress, Bill has a tendency to comfort eat. He therefore needs to exercise discipline in his diet so that he does not become too large.

Because Bill has decided from an early age that he would like to make politics his career, the placement of Saturn is highly significant in his chart and needs to be explored. Saturn, placed in the tenth house of Bill’s chart indicates that he was a slow starter, but these early lessons that he learned gave him invaluable skills, which history has shown he has used well. Because Saturn is placed in Leo, this indicates that in many ways he feels uncomfortable in love, which is another reason on why he was drawn to illicit sex and affairs, as they were not based on mutual love and no commitment involved.

Pluto’s placement in the chart symbolises Bill’s fall from grace during the Monika Lewinsky scandal. Pluto placed in Leo indicates that there are many transforming issues that need to be looked at with regard to love in his life. Bill craves something that is highly intense and extreme, and the day to day activities associated with normal, ordinary types of love can be a major turn-off. Bill craves excitement, and what better way to get excitement than to take very highly calculated risks that have the potential to destroy his marriage, reputation and his career.

Pluto forms a sextile to the Libran stellium in his first house, which indicates that he has a very high need for control in his life. Although Saturn conjunct Leo’s stellium and sextile the Libran stellium normally helps to keep Bill’s activities on an even keel, certain aspects and transits can always make things go helter skelter, for the time being at least. Pluto forms a conjunction to three midpoints in particular; Mars/North Node, Neptune/North Node and North Node/Ascendant. This indicates that he needed to strike a balance with regard to individuals who he spoke to, particularly with regard to his very important relationships. Perhaps if Bill Clinton had sought professional help for his difficulties in how he behaved in his personal relationships, he would have found that they were much more satisfactory and he would not have felt the need to stray. Part of the reason why Bill engaged in illicit activities is because they were very secretive in nature. The fact that he had a secret, which would not be in his best interest to reveal to his partner, made if difficult for him to get too close to her, thereby allowing him not to work the deeply buried problems in his relationship, which were a result of his inability to get too close emotionally.

Cancer, the sign of the Midheaven, is in a prominent placement for a person who wishes to pursue a life in politics because it shows that the individual has a desire to care for others. Cancer is an appropriate placement for any presidential hopefuls because it indicates that the individual really cares about his fellow man and is willing to make a career out of it. Because Cancer is a cardinal sign, it can be quite forceful, thereby giving it the initiative to initiate worthwhile activities. It is worth noting that John F Kennedy, also a young president, and a great deal of charisma and female admirers.

When looking at Bill Clinton’s chart it becomes quite apparent that because all of the planets are concentrated in one section, there is not enough balance to help him to become a well-rounded individual. It is this high concentration of planetary activity that has enabled Bill to become president of the United States, but it is this same sense of extreme cohesiveness that has affected his personal life has meant that he is not ordinary enough to be able to live a seemingly ordinary life. Transits and progressions, however, should help to spread the planetary positions out and give harmony to the chart, thereby giving Bill a bit more stability in his life as he matures.

Because Hillary has stayed with Bill for over three decades and has worked tirelessly to help him to get where he is today. Hillary’s Sun at 2 degrees Scorpio, along with his stellium Scorpio, located on his first/second house cusp. It is for that reason that she has a huge, impact on his sense of self. Hillary comes from a very stable, middle-class family background, which is something that appealed to Bill, who did not have such an upbringing. During the course of their marriage, it was Hillary who was the breadwinner of the family, as public servants are not generally well paid (although there are other perks that go along with the position). Hillary’s Neptune forms a conjunction to Venus, which indicates that the pair had some very high ideals with their relationships. When these dreams were not realised, however disenchanted and even a sense of depression could result, which is evidenced by the many sombre photos taken of the couple when the Monika Lewinsky affair become public knowledge.

The Sun/Moon midpoint is considered by many to be of karmic significance and relates to how our anima and animus unite to help form our cohesive being. Bill’s Sun/Moon midpoint, at 8 degrees Cancer, shows that he really does need to be on top of things, particularly in a political capacity overseeing things. That is where Bill operates best. Because this midpoint is in the sign of Cancer, he relies heavily on strong women to help him achieve his career goals, such as his mother, grandmother, wife, secretary and other important advisors.
