Azimene degrees are considered to be "lame and deficient". Distinction of zodiac degrees was first introduced by Greek and Egyptian astrologers. Later Muslim astrologers would classify zodiac degrees believed to have different influences in the six following classes: azimene, dark, light, of increasing fortune, pitted, smoky. Azimene degrees were designated in Greek with the words sinôtikai moirai - degrees of illness, and in Arabic as darajât al-zamânat. They indicate chronic and uncurable illnesses, particularly if the waning Moon is in one of them.
In horary astrology the Moon is afflicted if it occupies one of the following degrees:
Azimene degrees can also be used to see if an horary chart is radical and fit to be judged. The analysis of azimene degrees does not constitute a part of the considerations before judgement, namely the observations made before delineating a chart, as azimene degrees can be used only under very restrictive circumstances. If - and only if - the querent has very obvious disability then azimene degrees can be used. In this cases according to William Lilly the ascendant, the lord of the ascendant or the Moon may be in azimene degrees, signalling the querent's disability. It is likely that the querent's natal chart too will show azimene degrees rising, occupied by the Moon or by the lord of the ascendant.
