From al mateen, an arabic word literally meaning "the winner", and also ruler, dispositor.

The almuten of a sign is the planet that has the highest number of dignities in a given sign or in a certain degree of a sign.

The almuten of a house is the planet who has the most dignities in the sign where a house is.

The almuten of a figure is the ruler of the chart, the planet who has the highest number of dignities.

In the calculation of the almuten only essential dignities - that is dignity by sign, exaltation, triplicity, term and face are used.
